BERT has launched several successful
initiatives, and programs for job shadowing, mock interviews, and
student internships. BERT also provides education and training to local
employers and provides assistance with student job placement. Each
year, local business leaders visit the Sonoma Valley High School campus
to give students an opportunity to submit resumes, practice their
interview skills, and learn about available jobs.
The Chamber contributes $2,000 each year for
the annual BERT scholarships, which go to Sonoma Valley High School
seniors interested in business careers who have achieved excellent
performance in work-related courses.
Each April, BERT invites local employers to
nominate their outstanding high-school-student employees for the annual
Good Work Ethic Awards. Recipients are chosen on the basis of factors
such as punctuality, teamwork, initiative, and communication skills.
This program gives the business community a rare opportunity to honor
students on school premises for their achievements in the workplace.
