Academic Program
SVUSD
expects strong academic performance from all students. The district has
been a leader in Sonoma County in the identification and implementation
of academic standards in grades K–12. Academic standards for math and
language arts are currently in place. Summer school is required for
students who do not pass grade-level exit skills.
An important
measure of the success of Sonoma Valley’s educational program is the
performance of high school students on the Scholastic Aptitude Test
(SAT), which measures verbal and math skills related to academic
performance in colleges and universities. The number of students taking
the SAT is increasing annually.
All schools include libraries
and technology labs and offer special programs to meet the needs of
diverse students. Sonoma Valley expects students to demonstrate mastery
of a challenging curriculum, and to be able to apply their knowledge
and skills at all levels. The district’s goal is to prepare all
students to be lifelong learners.
Sonoma Valley High School
(SVHS) was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges for six years in 2002 through the Focus on Learning process.
In addition, SVHS places a high priority on school-to-career
opportunities for students through its Career Pathways program and
courses in industrial arts, visual and performing arts, and
agriculture. SVHS also has been selected as a Digital High School.
School Facilities
In
support of quality education, the Sonoma Valley community successfully
passed bond measures in 1994 and 1997. The funds from these bonds have
been used for modernization projects in all schools, for library
upgrades, for expansion of Sonoma Valley High School, and for building
a second middle school.
